Ajang penghargaan Primetime Emmy Awards yang ke-74 kembali diadakan di the Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles. Acara yang sudah berlangsung sejak 3 September lalu tersebut akhirnya mencapai puncaknya pada 12 September 2022, waktu setempat.
Di kesempatan tahun ini, Emmy Awards berlangsung selama tiga jam penuh, dengan beberapa kejutan di antaranya. Yup, beberapa aktor dan aktris ternama berhasil mencetak sejarah baru dalam dunia pertelevisian.
Acara yang dibawakan oleh Kenan Thompson berhasil membawa aktor asal Korea Selatan Lee Jung-jae menjadi aktor Asia pertama yang memenangkan piala Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series berkat penampilannya yang apik dalam serial “Squid Game”. Ia juga menjadi orang Asia keempat yang pernah memenangkan Emmy di bidang akting.
Saat naik ke atas panggung, Lee Jung-jae berkata, “Terima kasih kepada Television Academy, terima kasih kepada Netflix dan terima kasih kepada sutradara yang telah membuat masalah realistis yang kita semua hadapi menjadi hidup di layar kaca dengan cara yang sangat kreatif dan naskah yang luar biasa.”
“Terima kasih tim ‘Squid Game’. Terima kasih kepada semua orang yang menonton di Korea Selatan,” tambahnya.
Di sisi lain, aktris pemain “Euphoria”, Zendaya, menjadi perempuan berkulit Hitam pertama yang memenangkan Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, sekaligus menjadi pemenang termuda yang pernah masuk dalam sejarah Emmy.
Dalam pidatonya, Zendaya berterima kasih kepada para pemain dan kru dari “Euphoria” serta semua yang telah membagikan cerita kecanduan mereka padanya. “Keinginan terbesar saya untuk Euphoria adalah bisa membantu menyembuhkan banyak orang, dan saya hanya ingin mengucapkan terima kasih kepada semua orang yang berbagi cerita dengan saya,” ujarnya.
Zendaya juga menambahkan, “Saya ingin kamu tahu bahwa siapa pun yang menyukai Rue atau merasa seperti Rue, saya sangat berterima kasih atas ceritamu dan saya membawanya bersama saya dan dengan begitu membawanya bersama Rue. Terima kasih banyak.”
Aktris berkulit Hitam Sheryl Lee Ralph juga menorah sejarah sebagai aktris berkulit hitam kedua yang memenangkan the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, setelah aktris Jackée Harry meraih piala tersebut pada tahun 1987.
Selain Lee Jung-jae, insan perfilman yang juga berhasil mencetak sejarah adalah Hwang Dong-hyuk, sutradara dari serial terkenal “Squid Game”, yang berhasil menjadi sutradara Asia pertama yang pernah memenangkan kategori tersebut, sekaligus menjadi sutradara pertama yang memenangkan serial bukan-berbahasa-Inggris.
Lizzo, yang memenangkan piala untuk “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls”, menangis saat menerima penghargaan tersebut, dan meminta para Big Grrrls untuk turut naik ke atas panggung.
Ia berkata, “Ketika saya masih kecil, yang saya inginkan adalah melihat diri saya di media. Seseorang yang bertubuh besar seperti saya. Berkulit Hitam seperti saya. Cantik seperti saya. Jika saya bisa mengulang waktu dan memberi tahu Lizzo kecil, saya akan berkata, ‘Kamu akan melihat orang tersebut, tapi ia haruslah kamu.”
